Research

Independent analysis of venture equity, structured debt and M&A in Latin American fintech. Each report reconciles the deals I track into one dataset and reads them as an operator: what the money buys, not just how much of it there is.

Headline figures
$4.8B+ tracked, 90+ deals
Format

Main insights

  • CloudWalk's $1.1B FIDC issuance was the largest fintech financing event of the half, and few noticed.
  • Banco Plata's $405M Series C at a $5B valuation made it LatAm's most valuable privately held digital bank.
  • Mexico passed Brazil in venture dollars for the first time in over a decade.
  • Structured debt, through FIDCs and credit facilities, now rivals equity as the main form of capital.

Methodology

Three kinds of capital, kept apart because they aren't comparable.

Venture equity

Priced rounds and equity investments in fintech and financial-services companies. This is the number most trackers report, and on its own it understates how lenders are funded.

Structured debt

Credit facilities, FIDCs (Brazil's receivables investment funds) and other vehicles that fund loan books. It is often larger than equity for lenders, and it isn't venture money.

M&A

Acquisitions and control transactions, at disclosed consideration. This is where strategic buyers paying for licenses, distribution or data show up.

Data standards

  • Deals are assigned to a period by announcement date.
  • Amounts are in US dollars at the rates used when each deal was first reported; figures published only in local currency are converted at period-end rates.
  • Undisclosed amounts are listed and never estimated.
  • Deals that appear in more than one monthly edition are counted once, and reclassifications are noted in each report.
  • Headline totals that combine capital types are labeled as such, and each type is also reported on its own.
  • Sources include company announcements, Crunchbase, LatamList, Bloomberg Línea, FinTech Global, This Week in Fintech LatAm and Cuantico VP.
  • Nothing here is investment advice.
